Walking home from school, Sophie and her closest friend Jansie Sophie shared with Jansie her aspiration to someday run a store. More realistic, Jansie warned her that such a thing required a lot of money. Sophie vowed she would find a solution and stayed optimistic. She might remain a manager until then. Jansie attempted to clarify that becoming a manager is not quite so simple. Sophie, though, kept dreaming and claimed she would own the greatest store in the city and be like the renowned designer Mary Quant.
Jansie was aware that their future was all mapped out; both of them were supposed to be employed in a biscuit factory. She wanted Sophie to stop wondering since she felt disappointed. She told her shop work didn't pay much and her demanding father would never let such things happen.
