SUMMARY of The Enemy Class 12 

Dr. Sadao Hoki was born and raised in Japan, but he went to school in the United States and now lives a modern life as a recognised surgeon. As he walks along the beach with his wife Hana one night, he comes across an American fighter who is not awake. The man is a prisoner of war and is badly hurt and close to dying.

Dr. Sadao has to choose between his duty to his country and his duty to his patients. In the eyes of the country, it would be right to either hand over the soldier to the police or let him die, but his healer's guilt makes him want to save the man's life. Even though it will hurt his image, career, and family, Dr. Sadao brings the soldier home and operates to remove a bullet from his body.

His choice makes things difficult at home. At first, Hana is upset, and the house staff is so against it that they leave. Dr. Sadao is also aware that hiding the soldier could be seen as betraying the group. He tells a strong general something in secret so that the general doesn't get suspicious. The general promises to send killers to kill the soldier without anyone knowing. But after days, no one shows up.

Dr. Sadao helps the man sneak away because he knows that letting him go is the only way to solve the problem. He gives him food, drinks, clothes, and a boat. He also tells him how to find a Korean fishing boat and get to safety. After the soldier leaves, Dr. Sadao thinks about what he did and questions why he chose to save an enemy. But deep down, he knows it was the voice of humanity that made him do it.

CONCLUSION: The Enemy Class 12 Summary 

"The Enemy" is a moving story about how patriotism and kindness can clash inside people. Pearl S. Buck shows very well that moral strength and kindness are still important during wartime.
